Being Port Scanned?
Recently, many people have started running "security" software. This software monitors your computer for incoming connections, and reports if any connection is made. Some software even attempts to automatically email the administrator of the site trying to connect. Our website contains actively-checked gaming server lists. We maintain a database of IP addresses (submitted by users only), and we have software that periodically goes out and attempts to connect to these addresses to check if a gaming (Quake, Quake 2, etc.) server is present. These scans have been recently a cause of alert for some people who are not aware of this. It is possible that someone who had your IP address previously ran a gaming server and submitted their IP address to our database. It is even possible that you ran a server a long time ago and submitted your IP address then. In any case, there is no need to worry. We are not trying to hack you, or cause you any harm. These probes have no affect whatsoever on your computer. They do not slow down your computer or your connection by anything close to what you would be able to notice. What can you do to stop them?
Feel free to email us if you have any questions. |
